Honorable Judge James L. “Jim” Cline, Jr., of Greensboro, Georgia died Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the age of 62.  He was born April 17, 1952 in Canton, GA, the son of the late Peggy Nally Cline and James Levi Cline, Sr. of Waleska, GA.  He was a graduate of Cherokee County High School and the University of Georgia, with a degree in Wildlife Management from the Warnell School of Forestry.  He also obtained a law degree from the Walter F. After graduating, he established his first law practice in Greensboro, Georgia.  He became the Assistant DA for the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit and then Assistant DA for Bibb County. In 1995, he was appointed the Superior Court Judge of the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit by Governor Zell Miller. Judge Cline served with distinction during his career and was beloved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His jurisdiction extended from Jones, Baldwin, Greene, Hancock, Jasper, Morgan, Putnam and Wilkinson Counties. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and cooking and was locally famous for his BBQ sauce – Judge Cline’s #9. When time permitted, he loved to travel.

In addition to his son, James Levi “J” Cline, III and his fiance’, Lynn Oliver of Nashville, TN, he is survived by his father, James Levi Cline, Sr. of Waleska, GA and Claire J. Cline, long time love and companion.

Dear Claire & J, It is with great sadness that I express my sincerest condolences for your loss. Even though we didn't see each other often, I talked with Jim many times over the years. I considered him a friend since we endured law school together, and I will miss our regular telephone conversations. The last one I had with him was just this past Saturday and was nearly two hours. As usual, he kept me laughing throughout our talk. I know he loved you both, and I can't imagine your hurt right now. Please know y'all will be in my and Donna's thoughts and prayers. This is one of those times when words seem so inadequate. I TRULY grew up with Judge Cline (Jimmy to those of us from Waleska) and both we went to Waleska Baptist Church. For years he and I were the only two kids in our Sunday School class so we knew each other quite well. He was like a brother to me back then. Claire and J, my heart goes out to you both. We know how much he loved you both and we ALL loved him. He will be in our hearts forever. May you feel the comfort of God's loving arms around you during this sad time.

To the family and friends,

Judge Cline will be sorely missed here in Greene County. I always enjoyed going to court when he was presiding because no matter what was going on in the courtroom he would interrupt it look over to me and say "What's going on Aaron?" I will miss his humor and candor as well. May he rest in peace.
