Ray Austin Martin

Ray Austin Martin of Eatonton, GA, died on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the age of 81, at his residence with his loving family. He was born in Halifax County, Virginia, on October 2, 1942, one of seven children of the late James Howard Martin and Mary Sue Stewart Martin. He graduated from High Plains Indian School in 1960. He married Bobbie Dowdy on June 19, 1965, at Calvary Baptist Church in Roxboro, NC. Ray served in the United States Air Force for twenty-six years and sixteen years in civil service. He received an honorable discharge as a Senior Master Sergeant. Ray was loved by everyone and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

In addition to his wife, Bobbie Martin, of Eatonton, GA, Ray is survived by his daughters, Tawanna Rusk and husband Kevin of Kennesaw, GA, and Keetah Singleton and husband Lane of Greensboro, GA; sisters, Edith Shepherd, Winnie Epps and husband Tommy and Sarah Kennedy and husband Donald; brothers, Sam Martin and wife Faye, and Kirt Martin and wife Laurie; grandchildren, Logan McKenzie (Matt), Peyton Lewter (Drake), Jacy Singleton and Carter Singleton; great-grandchildren, Lottie-Grace, Rusk, and Mary -Collins; other relatives and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Phyllis Martin. 

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA, with Pastor Craig Williamson, D.Min. officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 before the service at the funeral home. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Fisher House Foundation or St. Jude's Hospital. Ray will be interred at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA with full military honors. This will be a private ceremony for the family only.
