Brooke Manning-Hinds Obituary

Brooke Manning-Hinds of Greensboro, GA passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at her home in Greensboro. She was born on November 11, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland. At the tender age of three days Brooke was adopted by the late Richard and Ellen Manning of New Canaan, CT.  She married William Spencer Hinds on May 8, 1976 at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan, CT and they made their home in Ridgefield, CT. During her working career Brooke was tapped to work at the White House in 1971 to help recruit talented women into government. After the White House she worked in marketing at Baldwin-Gegenheimer and later at Barnes Engineering, both in Stamford, CT. Over the next twenty-six years Brooke was the Chief Operating Officer of the United Way of New Canaan. While living in Connecticut she was a member of the Kiwanis Club in New Canaan and had the distinction of being the first female president of any Kiwanis Club in the country.  She was also heavily involved with the Summer Theatre of New Canaan.In June 2016 Brooke and her husband moved to Greene County to enjoy their retirement on Lake Oconee.  At Del Webb here in Greensboro Brooke was part of Del Webb's Scrappers club, a volunteer at OPAS (Oconee Performing Arts Society) events and was active in the Theater on the Lake at Del Webb. She was also a quilt maker and enjoyed making banners and antependium for use in church services. Brooke was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro where she served as an Elder, a Clerk of Session, and sang in the choir.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Spencer Hinds of Greensboro, GA; her brother, Gordon Manning and his wife Barbara of Minneapolis, MN; and her beloved Cockalier pet dog, Liffey.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, 117 South Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Meg Jackson Clark officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service in the Fellowship Hall.  Donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 117 South Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642.
