Samuel Frank Durham of Union Point, Georgia, who just recently celebrated his one hundred and first birthday, died on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Greene Point Health Care Center in Union Point. Mr. Durham was born in Bairdstown, GA in Oglethorpe County on December 6, 1911, the son of the late Samuel Vinson Durham and Minnie Aderhold Durham. As a child he attended Temperance Bell School which later consolidated with Woodville High School. He married Annie Mae Lewis in 1936 and they made their home in Union Point, GA. Mr. Durham started working in 1929 at Union Manufacturing Company in Union Point and served the company faithfully in a career that lasted fifty-nine years. His first job was sweeping the floor, but he quickly rose through the ranks and retired as Superintendent of Knitting. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Union Point, where he taught the Mens Sunday School Class. He was also a Deacon, serving on the board several times and served as Chairman of the Deacons.

He is survived by a daughter Rochelle Durham Anthoine and husband Ray of Ft. Valley, GA; and five grandchildren, Archer Ogletree (Alice), Katrina O. Ortner (Steve), Karen O. Mathews (Steve), Cynthia A. Holly (Jeff) and Lisa A. Keys; six great grandchildren, Brandi Schneider (Chris), Jonathan Ortner, Alex Mathews, Ashlyn Holly, Austyn Holly and Trey Keys; one great great grandchild, Autumn Fanette Schneider; and a brother, M. C. Durham. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Lewis Durham in April of this year; a daughter, Fanette Durham Ogletree in April of 2003; and siblings, Sara Lee Wray, Winnie Nell Tuggle, Velma Durham, Berta Durham, Pope Durham and Bryant Durham.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 206 Thornton Street, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Harry Michael officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669. Serving as pallbearers are Bobby Durham, Joe Durham, Melvin Durham, Carroll Durham, Kerry Durham and Tommy Swann. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at First Baptist Church of Union Point. The family requests that any memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 206 Thornton Street, Union Point, GA 30669. Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N. My prayers and sympathy to the family. I always enjoyed my visits with Mr. & Mrs. Durham at Willow Run when they would come together to the Devotional time on Sunday mornings. He was always so kind to care for her. Love, Jane Cobb

I am so sorry for your loss, Mr. Frank was a fine man but I know Miss Annie Mae was glad to receive him in heaven & may God give you comfort in knowing they are with Jesus.

So sorry this is late, but was in Colorado with family for Christmas. As you know Mr. Frank was one of my favorite people and was a great inspiration to me starting in high school when he tought me about fixing Knitting machines between my junior and senior years.I am so happy he had a long life as he had a great opportunity to positively influence his family and others. You have my sympathy and I share your joy in his wonderful life. Sibley
