Bobby was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro where he taught the Men’s Sunday school class for 25 years and also served as a lay leader. What wonderful memories of Bobby's big old grin and dry humor! Tom used to say his Christian faith was strengthened in Bobby's Sunday school class. I will remember him as a man among men and a very good friend. My heart is with the Roper and Carroll families. Love, Linda

Janice, My heart is broken. I loved Bobby as a brother. I don't ever remember a time when he was not part of my life. We grew up on the same block, started first grade and graduated together from GHS. He filled a special place in my heart which can never be replaced. I mourn with you and his children at his death. Bobby Roper was the first childhood friend I had in Greensboro, followed the same day by his neighbor, Sonny Thurmond. We were ten years old, and from that point forward I spent many happy days visiting Greensboro during the summer and other holidays. I consider Greensboro my second home, and I will always love and remember the people who have been my friends and those who still are. The pallbearer list jogs my memory, and included are several who bring a smile to my face. Bobby would be pleased. Speaking of smiles, there has never been a more infectious one than that owned by him. This is how I will remember him. My thoughts and sympathy are with the family and his many friends. Conrad

I am truly sorry for your loss of this great guy and family member. I fondly recall when Bobby & Sam were young, growing up there in G'Boro, living near Gentry, Edward, Lewis Bryan, Carey Jr.,etc. and we all played in various yards in their neighborhood and Bobby was always a 'straight shooter' in sportsmansship and fairness.

Dear Roper family, That picture of Bobby is exactly the smile I remember so well when he was young! He surely hasn't changed. I'm so sorry for your loss...and he will surely be missed. Though we haven't been in touch in the last few years, he always bragged on his family and how much he loved each of you. Dear Roper Cousins: I was so sorry to hear of Bobby's passing. Our family has wonderful memories of visiting Uncle Allen and Aunt Marian and their family in Greensboro. Like Bobby's parents, Bobby and Sally and their children were warm and gracious hosts and I have fond memories of playing at their home as a boy with young Bobby and Jim. I hadn't seen Bobby in many years, but we exchanged e-mails several years ago and he wrote of hosting a family reunion as his father did routinely many years ago. Family was important to him. I will remember him as a kind and lovable man. My Mother loved him especially, and told us wonderful stories of him as a child. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Love, Kevin Roper O'Brien

Bobby obviously had an impact on alot of Greene County people in his life time measuring "only" 70 years....But as a great communicator and story teller, he proved how much he loved his home town and his Ole high school night after night in Tiger Stadium... Its never easy to take over the seat of a legend, but in reality I'm just borrowing his microphone. God Bless Bobby, and we'll see you on the other side.
