Amanda and Josh, I was absolutely heartbroken to hear about your dad. Coach Martz was my favorite teacher and coach. It is because of him that I ran track in high school. I love telling my kids about all the funny things he used to do and say when we were in school. He loved both of ya'll so much and so enjoyed telling us about you. He was a proud father and with good reason. He made math fun and was an excellent teacher. He will be missed terribly. You and your families are in my prayers.

Martz family! I want to say thank you for allowing us to enjoy the days and years with your father. A man I will never forget and a man I loved and enjoyed for so many years. Words can not express how I really feel and how he really bless me. As a teen in school, it was very hard, but he was a great person to keep you moving. It is a shock to me and I hate that I am so far away. If there is anything I can do please let me know. Praying for blessings, love, and peace from my family to yours. God bless you all!

Every now and then you run across a person who makes a difference in your life. I must say that Coach Martz taught me so many things other than Geometry. He was an amazing man, and he will be missed by many. I know he shaped me in ways that can never be repaid. You will never catch me being late for anything!!! Thank you, Coach Martz for not letting us use excuses for our problems.

Amanda & Josh, I don't know if you remember me or not. I babysat both of you one summer. You piled pillows on top of me and shot me with water guns. Your dad came in and got a huge laugh out of the situation. I can still hear him laughing. My deepest sympathies to both of you during this time. Coach Martz was an awesome geometry teacher and a wonderful man! He made math fun with all of his jokes. I can imagine him in heaven surrounded by angels while he tells his famous jokes. Thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Kim

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I will always remember Coach Martz as a teacher that made learning Geometry fun. However, to keep his students focused, he kept his room freezing. I think we are just beginning to unthaw. Coach Martz touched lives both in the classroom, and in the Greene County community. May the family find comfort through God and your many friends. I will forever remember him as a great teacher that loved blow pops and even though I hadn’t seen him in years, I thank the family for sharing him with us. Today and always, I will reflect on him giving students advice and friendship.

Josh & Manda, We are here for you in your time of need. We love you both very much. Uncle TA was the best! I still see his smile and his loving eyes. I am going to miss him but he is with GOD and Aunt Cindy. He was a great man and although he is not here with us any longer in the flesh he is with us in the spirit. Remember that we are not to lean on our own understanding but the will of God. We love you and are here for you anytime you need us. TA was an outstanding educator and a powerful man of God. I was blessed to work with him. He served as my assistant principal when I was the principal of Carson Middle School. His love for the students and staff made all the difference as we sought to build character while educating the students. He was a dear friend and brother in the Lord. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him

Josh and Amanda, We were surprised and saddened to hear of your father's passing. We can only say that it is the Lord's timing and that he had a full and fruitful life. I often think of how proud Grandma and Grandpa Martz must be of him (your great-grandparents). Tommy reminded me of Grandpa in many ways, and he certainly carried on his legacy (sports, school, family, character). May the Lord bless you and give you Peace. Love, Greg and Ulrike Watts

The world lost a good man but God gained a great angel. It is always more difficult for those who mourn than for the angel who leaves to be with God. Take care of yourselves Amanda and Josh because you have genes from parents who died too young. Take time to have tests done as much can now be diagnosed if done at an early age. You are in my prayers. Love to you both. Cecelia Smith

Wishing you peace and comfort during this most difficult time. Tom was a dedicated teacher to his students and a loyal friend to all of us who had the opportunity to know him and to work with him. He had a wonderful sense of humor that would bring smiles to everyone. Surely, he has written all of those math jokes in a notebook someplace. How lucky you were to have him as your father and roll model. With deepest of sympathy. Emma O'Neal

I will never forget all of the wonderful memories you have left me with! You were the most influential teacher I've ever had, and taught me way more about life than anyone ever could. Your witty jokes and laugh could make anyone smile. Your stories were the greatest by far, and I hope one day to be as kind and comforting as you. You will be greatly missed and always loved and remembered! My prayers are with the Martz family. "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea." Psalms 46:1-2

Coach Martz will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was hands down one of my favorite high school teachers and later math tutor. I'll never forget the advice and guidance I was lucky enough to receive from him. I don't think I ever left his classroom without a smile on my face.

Tom's sudden passing Saturday night left Kyle and me dazed and saddened. We've always felt a close bond with Tommy. He's always been a positive, outgoing individual but as a man he developed into so much more. Tom and his wonderful wife, Cindy brought so much to us. Josh and Amanda are heirs to that same exceptional character, love, devotion and service to others. We know they both will pass this inheritance on to their own children. We're so proud of Tom and his family, words alone can not explain. I know Tommy is now with Cindy, his dad and the Lord and for this we are happy! Love,Rich & Kyle

My children and I did not have the priviledge of Coach Martz being our teacher. He came to Greene County after I graduated and on to Oglethorpe County after my children graduated. I had the honor of knowing him through subbing at OCHS where he taught and I subbed as a paropro in his class and I really enjoyed his class. He made your day brighter and kept a smile on your face. Our last talk we had in his class was he was going to retire after this year and he was looking forward to his grandbaby being born. To the family, you all have my deepest sympathy and prayers. OCHS will never be the same again without him. He was a wonderful teacher and friend to all of us at OCHS.

It was a shock to hear about Coach Martz. Amanda and Josh, I know he loved you both so dearly. I will always remember the stories he told about the two of you to our class back in 1984 or so. He had diaper changing stories about Josh, or he's say "...listen to what Amanda did last night..." He loved his family. He loved God, he cared for his students. He made us feel cared about. I loved his jokes, his laugh, and his twinkling blue eyes. I sure never wanted to make him mad! What a terrible loss for you and for the community. Tom and I both enjoyed knowing and working with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Kay
