Wydell (Ramshur) Lankford

Wydell Ramshur Lankford, age 88, of Stephens, Georgia, died Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Watkinsville, Georgia.  Born in Epps, Louisiana on December 29, 1932, she was one of eleven children and the daughter of the late Thomas Greene Ramshur and Erma Christine Fitzhugh Ramshur.  In 1937 when she was five the family moved to Columbia, Mississippi where she graduated from high school.  Then she moved to Demopolis, Alabama  and  lived with her grandparents. Later moving to Atlanta she went to work for Southern Bell where she was a supervisor. She met Bobby Lee Lankford, Sr. and they married on November 5, 1952.  For twenty-three years she ran a children’s nursery in Decatur having a positive influence on the lives of many children who continued to keep in touch with her.  She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Union Point, Georgia.  Wydell loved flowers, cooking for others, her many children that she kept and especially her family.
    
In addition to her husband of sixty-eight years, Bobby Lankford of Stephens, GA, she is survived by a son, Bobby “Bob” Lee Lankford, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Monroe, GA; a daughter, Gwen West and her husband Sandy of Stephens, GA; sisters, Nita Duliba, Doris Mavrikis and Billie Stringer; brothers, James Earl Ramshur and Paul Lewis Ramshur; four grandchildren, Caitlin Stafford, Matthew Lankford, Brittany Freeman and Adam Lankford; nine great grandchildren, Samuel Lankford, Averie Lankford, Addison Lankford, Emerson Stafford, Beckley Stafford, Grayson Stafford, Hailey Stafford, Logan Stafford and Luke Freeman; a number of  other relatives and many friends.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Tommy Ramshur and Ras Ramshur and three sisters, Tommy Jean Wise, Edna Earl Collins and Chris Ramshur.

Graveside Services will be held, Friday, May 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Pete Culver and Rev. Tommy Fountain officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Russell Lankford, Keith Lankford, Geoff Dale, Scott Dale, Mark Rainey, Robbie Rainey, Shayne Langford, Matt Lankford and Kenny Futrelle.  The family will receive friends Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home.   McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
