Wilson Phelps Obituary

Wilson Taylor Phelps, age 87, of Greensboro, GA, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Born in Greensboro, GA on January 19, 1937, Wilson was the son of the late Wilson Thrasher Phelps and Gracie Oaks Phelps. He was a graduate of Greensboro High School and Clayton College. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. On April 23, 1959, he married the former Ethel Beatrice Moore of Taliaferro County. Twenty years ago, they moved from Jonesboro, GA to Greensboro. Before he retired in 1994, he was an inspector for Delta Air Lines. When health permitted, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro. He was also a member of the Georgia Antique Engine Club and the Florida Flywheelers. Wilson was a jack of all trades. He was a commercial pilot, a certified welder and a licensed aircraft mechanic.

He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-six years, Ethel Phelps of Greensboro, GA. Survivors also include his daughters, Terry Cox of Moultrie, GA, Janet Head of Greensboro, GA and Charmion Phelps (Roger) of Greenwood, SC; son Wilson Taylor Phelps II (Lynda); grandchildren: Star Fallen, Ashley Edwards (Thomas (Chris), Beth Schmitz (Billy), Brittany Moore (Justin), Teresa Corbitt (Josh), Victoria Raliford (John), Nathaniel Russell, Justin Head, Brian Phelps, Jonathan Russell and Bradley Phelps; fifteen great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by all of his siblings: Winthrop Phelps, Luther Phelps, Harold Phelps, Bell Booth, Vivian Thurmond, Wilivada Tool, Milida Thurmond, Evelyn Appling, Evona Copeland and Barbara Jackson.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 203 S. Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Any memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 203 S.
