Surrounded by family at his home, William Gene Dunn, age 78, of Sparta, Georgia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 14, 2020. He was born August 28, 1941 in Macon, GA. He attended Sparta High School and continued his education after he joined the United States Navy in 1960. He proudly served our country on the USS Lloyd Thomas during the Cuban Missile Crisis. On September 20, 1961 he married his high school sweetheart, the former Mary Cason, and they made their home in Sparta, GA. Gene worked as an electrician for the Georgia Power Company for seventeen years and later, along with his wife, owned and operated TIYLI Family Restaurant in Sparta for seventeen years. In his pastime, he enjoyed quail hunting, fishing, and gardening, but most of all he loved his dogs and excelled at training pointers. He was also involved in the recovery community through Alcoholics Anonymous. He lived a testament of overcoming challenges and allowing Christ to work in his life.
Gene was blessed by a large and loving family. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Mary Dunn, of Sparta, GA, their daughter, Donna (Brian) Hill of Watkinsville, GA, son, Mike (Sheri) Dunn from Maryville, TN, and daughter, Carol Lucas from Maryville, TN. He is also lovingly remembered by four grandchildren, Adam Hill, Amanda (Chandler) Hill Chittom, Caroline Hill, and Grace Lucas, and one great grandson, Sawyer Poulnott.
Graveside Services will be held Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Culverton Cemetery in Sparta, GA with Rev. Brian Hill officiating.
