William Howell Nelms, Sr.

William Howell Nelms, Sr. of Greensboro, GA, died September 14, 2021 after a brief illness at the age of 83. Born in Comer, GA on April 2, 1938, he was the son and one of nine children of the late George Dewy Nelms and Jessie Lee Landers Nelms.  Howell graduated from High School in Athens, GA.  On November 9, 2001, Howell married Martha Anne Wilson and settled in Greensboro, GA.  He was the owner and operator of Flowers Bakery Company in Athens, GA.  He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Greensboro, GA.  His greatest enjoyment came when he was surrounded by family and travelling all over the world.  He was also a big bass fisherman.
 
In addition to his wife, Martha Nelms of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by his daughter, Rita Shadden (Avery); sons, William Howell Nelms, Jr. and Anthony Nelms; sister, Barbara Jean Carrington; brother, Lanier Nelms; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a number of other relatives, and many, many friends.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by six of his siblings.
 
Funeral Services will be held, Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Ken Keely and Rev. Bobby Bear officiating.  Interment will follow in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, 3400 Penfield Road, Greensboro, GA 30642.  Serving as pallbearers are Mike Norris, Bret Morris, Jackson Morris, Fred McCannon, Jr., Mark Higdon, Dr. Ed Jump and Robert Jump.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home.  The family requests that donations be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, c/o Harold D.
