Obituary

Wheeler Rossman “Ross” Copelan III, age 64, of the Greshamville Community, died on Monday, February 3, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Watkinsville, GA.  Born in Greensboro, GA on September 16, 1955, he was the son of Bennie Mae Lovern Copelan of Greshamville and the late Wheeler Rossman “ W. R.” Copelan, Jr.  Ross graduated from Morgan County High School in the class of 1973 and attended ABAC after high school. On June 17, 1992 he married Rachel Secrist. His entire working career was with the Georgia Power Company as a light and heavy equipment operator.  After forty-three years of service he retired in the fall of 2018.  He was a member of Fork Chapel United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed NASCAR, and all sports, especially football.  Ross had a great personality and loved to tell jokes. 

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Copelan.  Ross is survived by his mother, Bennie Mae Copelan of Greshamville; daughter, Katie Copelan and her son Wyatt Rossman Copelan of Greshamville; stepson, Tony Williams and his wife Carrie and their daughter Amelia Williams; sister, Bonnie Copelan Duvall and her husband Billy of Greshamville; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

Graveside services will be held at Fork Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Highway 278, Greshamville, GA 30642 Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Tony Gavalas officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday at Fork Chapel United Methodist Church from 12:30 to 1:30.  Honorary pallbearers will be his Georgia Power family.  The family requests that any memorials be made to Fork Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1670 Reid Duvall Road, Madison, GA 30650.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
