Walton Scott Sweeney, Jr. age 71, of Del Webb Lake Oconee, previously of The Villages, Florida and Medford, New Jersey passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2014 .  Mr. Sweeney  was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 28, 1943 to the late Miriam Ella Morton Renner and Walton Scott Sweeney.  He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Philadelphia and attended Rider College.  He passionately loved his country and proudly served overseas in  the United States Air Force at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis in SAC.  He spent many years as an industrial salesman in the paper-mill and wall covering industries.  He was a past member of the New Jersey chapter of the Sons of the American  Revolution as a direct descendant from John Morton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.  He was also a longtime member of The National Rifle Association of America, American Legion and Moose International.  He fully enjoyed being part of the Del Webb Veterans Club.  He loved music, played the trumpet and was an avid reader of information regarding finance and investments.  He loved crossword puzzles, nature and the Georgia Mountains having spent many happy times there.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Renee Susan (nee Wolf); son, Walton Scott Sweeney III; daughter, Loretta (Michael) Werts; his two grandsons, Matthew and Tyler all of Pennsylvania; cousins, Robert White of France, David (Sally) White of Savannah, GA and Patricia White-Harmer of Pennsylvania; and his beloved mother-in-law, Edith Wolf of Athens, GA.  He will be sadly missed by friends and neighbors at Del Webb Lake Oconee.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Bubba Kerlin officiating.  Members of the Del Webb Veterans Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.  The family requests that any memorials be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 3343 Peachtree Road, NE, #M20, Atlanta, GA  30326.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
