Wallace "Wally" Pate Obituary

Wallace Daniel “Wally” Pate of Greensboro, GA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at his residence in Reynolds. He was born on August 23, 1936, in Portal, GA, to the late Lonnie Lee Pate and Lucille Pennington Pate. Wally earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia, where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army in Frankfurt, Germany.  

Wally married the former Geraldine Holcomb on June 20, 1968, and they made their home in Smyrna until 1998, when they returned to White Plains. He was a Certified Public Accountant and a founding partner of Pate, Cerqueda Morgan & Gault CPAs, retiring on December 31, 1998.  

He was an active member of White Plains Baptist Church, where he previously served as Finance Committee Chairman. Wally was an avid golfer, passionate gardener, and was named the 2015 Sweet Potato King with a 25-inch prize-winning sweet potato. He was a dedicated Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves fan. Wally also held memberships at Thomson Country Club and previously at Greene County Country Club. He served as President and was a board member of the Greene County Republican Party, as well as a member of the Greene County Regional Airport Board. He volunteered at election polls and was affiliated with the Georgia Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.  

His survivors include his daughter, Nancy Gault of Smyrna, GA; grandchildren Daniel Pate (Laura Pate), Sara Caroline Gault Adcock (Asher Adcock), both of Smyrna, GA; Geana Marie Gault of Chattanooga, TN; and Alexandra Gault Walters (Tim Walters) of Roswell, GA. He is also survived by his longtime and beloved caretaker, Linda Barnes; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends; and his cherished pet dog, Nikki.  

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Benny Ray Pate; grandson, Nathan Pate; sister, Edna Olene Lanier (James Durward Lanier); brothers, Haskel Lonnie Pate (Lora Hyche Pate) and Euphrates Albert Pate (Kate Kennedy Pate).  

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at White Plains Baptist Church, 1020 Main Street East, White Plains, GA 30678, with Reverend Bill Schmidt officiating. A graveside service will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the church.
