Ted Levis Ward

Ted Levis Ward, born and raised in Kansas City, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the age of 75. Just months before his passing, Ted had moved to Greensboro, Georgia, from Overland Park, Kansas, to be closer to his daughter Katie and his granddaughters, who brought him tremendous joy and pride. Born on October 29, 1950, Ted was the son of the late Walter Donald Ward and Francis Mary Levis Ward. A proud Kansas Citian through and through, Ted graduated from Van Horn High School in 1968, where he excelled in baseball and built lifelong friendships with classmates and teammates that he cherished throughout his life. His love for the game led him to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates farm team before earning his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City.

Family was always at the center of Ted’s life. He was a devoted father and grandfather who treasured every opportunity to spend time with the people he loved most. His greatest pride was his children and granddaughters, and nothing made him happier than being surrounded by family, sharing stories and making memories together. Ted especially adored his cousin, Gwen Henslee, whose lifelong bond and friendship meant the world to him.

Ted is survived by his son, James “Jay” Ward of North Port, Florida; his daughter, Kathryn “Katie” Williams and her husband Jason of Greensboro, Georgia; and his cherished granddaughters, Logan, Tember, and Conley, all of Greensboro. He is also survived by his cousin, Gwen Henslee; his niece, Trisha Ward; his nephew, Samuel Ward; and many dear lifelong friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Ted spent many years working in the chemicals and coatings industry with Union 76, G.S. Robins, and Brenntag. He was highly respected throughout his field and formerly served as President of the Kansas City Paint and Coatings Association. Ted will be remembered as a loyal friend and easygoing companion who was simply enjoyable to be around. He had a calm, welcoming presence and loved meeting friends for happy hour, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, and supporting Mizzou athletics. He loved golf and was always up for a tee time with friends or a nap with a tournament playing on TV. Ted also enjoyed attending the Indy 500, making trips to Sturgis, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle along Route 66, and cruising in his Corvette.

Ted shared many years raising his children with Rebecca Sue Henson Ward, who died shortly after Ted. Later in life, Ted married Joyce Parr, and together they shared many years of travel, adventure, and unforgettable memories. In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his brother, Sam Ward and his aunt, Virginia Mae Smithey.

A celebration of Ted’s life will be held on May 24, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Missouri. Arrangements are being handled by McCommons Funeral Home.
