Stephan "Steve" John Guss III

     Stephan “Steve” John Guss, III, age 86, of Greensboro, GA passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025, at his residence.  Born on May 30, 1938, in Syracuse, New York, he was the son of the late Stephan John Guss, Jr. and Georgette Flanigan Guss. After high school  he served his country in the United States Army receiving an honorable discharge.  Later he furthered his education at Eckerd College in a Program for Experienced Learners in St. Petersburg, FL. Stephan married Susan Wertz on August 13, 1982, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Clearwater, FL.  He then settled in Clearwater, FL where he was a journalist working for the Clearwater Sun until he retired in 2003. Having lived in Greensboro for the last fifteen years, they moved here from Taos, New Mexico.  Stephan was a member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church in Greensboro.  Wherever he lived he enjoyed volunteer tutoring in writing and comprehension in elementary and middle schools while he was semi and fully retired.  After moving to Del Webb in Greensboro, he played water volleyball and began Theater on the Lake. He was also an excellent photographer and a very enthusiastic fan of Major League Baseball and college basketball.
    Steve’s survivors include his wife Susan Guss of Greensboro, GA; daughter, Holly Guss (Heather Brown); grandchildren, Tyson Guss-Brown and Juniper Guss-Brown; sisters-in-law, Barbara Usher (Joseph) and Patricia Russell; other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff Guss and a sister Suzanne Aiona.
    A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 10:00 am at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, Georgia 30642 with Father Adam Blatt officiating, followed by a reception in the church’s Sacred Heart Social Hall.  Any memorials may be made to Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.
