Shirley Sweetapple Obituary

Mrs. Shirley Sweetapple of Greensboro, Georgia passed away on October 2, 2015. Mrs. Sweetapple was eighty years old and died of pancreatic cancer.

Shirley was born in Franklin, Pennsylvania to Reginald M. Cubbison and Dorothy Atwell Cubbison on February 19, 1935. The daughter of two school teachers, Shirley taught elementary school at the Third Ward School in Franklin, Pennsylvania for seven years after graduating from Slippery Rock University.  Shirley and Lee married on June 7, 1957. Jill was born on August 8, 1964. Amy was born on December 12, 1968.

Shirley loved to root for the University of Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. She particularly enjoyed listening to Larry Munson’s game commentary for UGA, and she and her daughters attended game seven of the 1995 World Series when the Braves won the world championship. Additionally, she was an avid reader who enjoyed mystery novels and works of nonfiction about Ernest Shackleton’s arctic expeditions. Spending time with family and celebrating holidays were additional favorite activities. She attended the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro.

Shirley is survived by her husband Lee, her daughters Jill and Amy, and her sister Ann Cubbison Diehl of Eureka, California. Her brother, Bill Cubbison, died in 1983.

A private funeral service will be held at the Greenview Cemetery. Information about an upcoming memorial service will be forthcoming.

Shirley was the heart of her family and home. She always saw a patch of blue sky in a stormy sky and blessed others with her kindness, perceptivity, and sense of humor. She will be greatly missed.
