Shirley Powers Buice

Shirley Powers Buice, age 73, of Greensboro, Georgia, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Greene Point Health Care and Rehab in Union Point, GA. Born in Brunswick, Georgia on November 17, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Ira Powers and Marie Cooper Powers. She graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in accounting. She married Marcus Rayburn Buice on August 7, 1960 and they lived in Doraville, Georgia. She worked as an accountant for Southern Bell Telephone Company until retiring in 1965. After coming to Lake Oconee since the seventies, they moved here permanently in 2004. Among her many hobbies, she enjoyed shopping, fishing, boat riding, baking, gospel music, growing flowers, watching birds and butterflies and reading, especially religious books. She was also an animal lover, but dogs and cats were her favorite and enjoyed being around kids, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Marcus Rayburn Buice of Greensboro, GA, she is survived by a daughter, Catherine Elaine "Cathy" Pruett and husband Nathan of Powder Springs, GA; a son Marcus Anthony Buice and wife Loretta Lynn of Covington, GA; a sister, Janice Powers of Adel, GA; three half sisters, Patty Brooks, Sylvia Minshew and Norma Jean Evans all of Florida; a brother, Junior Powers of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Johnathan Pruett, Theresa Burns, Christopher Burns and Cryston Burns; eight great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her identical twin, Joann Powers and a brother, Paul Powers.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church, in Greshamville with Rev. Mike Pritchett and Rev. Allen Swofford officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Rymon Buice, Ronald Buice, William Malcom, Chris Mullinax, Daryl Watts and Robert Watts. The family requests that any memorials be made to the New Hope Baptist Church, 1400 Farmington Road, Madison, GA 30650.
