Shirley Wilson Anderson, of Union Point, GA died Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Savannah Court of Lake Oconee in Greensboro, GA. She was 81. Born February 4, 1939 in Union Point, she was one of six children of the late Dank and Elzie Hensley Wilson. She was raised in the Macedonia Community and graduated from Greensboro High School in 1956. She went on to graduate from University of Georgia in 1961 earning a Bachelor’s degree in education. On December 24, 1957, she married Marvin Howard Anderson, Sr. of Union Point, GA. Over the years she taught school in Greene, Morgan, Oglethorpe, Wilkes and Hancock Counties retiring January 1, 1995. Shirley was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church of Union Point, GA. Being outside walking, gardening and playing with her animals were some of her favorite activities. She was an excellent cook and also enjoyed canning.
Survivors include her daughter, Tammy Anderson of Union Point, GA; her son, Marvin “Bubba” Anderson, Jr. of Union Point, GA and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. In addition to her husband, Marvin Anderson, Sr., she was preceded in death by her siblings: Erie Brinkley, Imogene Nichols, George Wilson, Ernest Wilson and Myrtie Rea Taylor.
Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 2:00 P. M. at Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery, 1560 Bethesda Church Road, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Farrett Boswell officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Grant Bear, Jimmy Thornton, Darryl Kitchens, Gerald Silvey, Kenny Howard, Michael Carter and Michael Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be John Bear, Hollis Yearwood, Donald Silvey and Steve Poling. The family requests that memorials be made to Oconee Regional Humane Society, 1020 Park Avenue Suite 101, Greensboro, GA 30642 or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, P. O.
