Scellar Steain Meeks Lacey, age 88, of White Plains, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Watkinsville, GA. Born in Soperton GA in Treutlen County on May 27, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Harvey Washington Meeks and Flossie Bussell Meeks. She graduated from Soperton High School and married John Wilson Lacey, Jr. Over the years she worked for Wellington Puritan Mills, Vantress, Tyson and Lena Hy Garment Company. She was a member of White Plains Baptist Church in White Plains, GA.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Boyd of Suwanee, GA, Betty Pirkle of Loganville, GA and Johnnie Lynn Ellis of Buckhead, GA; son, John Anthony “Andy” Lacey of White Plains, GA; brother, Stevie Lee Meeks; grandchildren, Alex Pirkle, Michele Ellis and John Luke Lacey; great grandchildren, John David Watkins and Elizabeth Grace Watkins; other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, John W. Lacey, Jr., she was preceded in death by her siblings, Larry E. Meeks, Sr., Randell Meeks and Barbara Ann Meeks.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the White Plains Baptist Church, 1020 Main Street East, White Plains, GA 30678 with Rev. Lee Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be the deacons of the church: James Coleman, Grant Coleman, David Price, Ike Moore, Jody Vandiver and Josh Pettit. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be made to White Plains Baptist Church, P. O.
