Sarah Onita Branyan Askew of Eatonton, Georgia, died Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro at the age of 81. Born in White Plains, GA on April 21, 1938, Nita was the daughter of the late Walter and Sarah Marie Howell Branyan. She attended school at Meadowcrest. On May 9, 1974, she married Gene Tunis Askew. For many years she was the owner and operator of Lakeview Restaurant at Lake Oconee. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed yard work, camping and all of her pets.
In addition to her husband, Gene Askew of Eatonton, GA, she is survived by a son, Butch Ellis of Eatonton, GA; two daughters, Connie Cluff (Randy) of Eatonton, GA and Tina Sisson and husband Wayne of Greensboro, GA; brother, Dickie Branyan of Buckhead, GA; four grandchildren, Hope Beasley and husband Danny, Mandy Churchwell and husband Dustin, Shanni Yearwood and husband Tommy and Sean Ellis and wife Kaitlin; eight great grandchildren, Chance, Tucker, Kyle, Kaylee, Harper, Graham, Brantley and Brody; a number of other relatives and friends and her beloved dog, Tinkerbell. Nita was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Branyan.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are: Johnny Lewis, Keith Branyan, Horace Askew, Jody Maddox, Wayne Sisson, Danny “Pee Wee’ Beasley, Dustin Churchwell, Jason Grubaugh and David Beasley. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
