Sarah Young McElhannon Watkins, of Eatonton, GA formerly of Greensboro, GA, died on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at her son’s home, at the age of 103. She was affectionately called “Big Mama/Be Mama” by her loved ones and friends. Born in Stephens GA on December 5, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Young and Mattie Capes Young. Sarah was a spinner working for Mary Leila Cotton Mills in Greensboro, GA. She also ran an upholstery business out of her home. Her many interests included sewing, working with flowers and cooking. She dearly loved her family and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother. Sarah was a member of West End Baptist Church in Greensboro.
In addition to her sons, Nathan “Punkin” McElhannon and Robert Lee “Bo” McElhannon both of Eatonton, GA, survivors include 18 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; a number of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Emory Thomas McElhannon; her second husband, Cecil Watkins; daughters, Gladys Noggle and Gwynell Noggle; son, Richard McElhannon; sisters, Lillian McElhannon, Lucille Noggle, and Shelby Jean Angles; and brothers, Billy Young, Robert Young, Herschel Young and Emory Young.
Graveside Services will be held Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 12:00 noon at Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris McElhannon, Scott Burgess, Robert Avery McElhannon, David Waldroup, Jim McNair and Troy Waldroup. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
