Sarah (Sellers) McElhannon

Evelyn Sarah Louise Sellers McElhannon, aged 84, of Union Point, GA, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026, at High Shoals Health & Rehabilitation in Bishop, GA. Born in Greensboro, GA, on October 12, 1941, to Marion and Annie Chapman Sellers, she was a graduate of Union Point High School. On October 11, 1959, she married Leonard McElhannon. Throughout her career, she served as a deli manager for Madison Pennington Grocery Store, Winn Dixie in Athens, and eventually retired from Ingles Markets in Greensboro. Sarah was a devoted member of the Union Point Worship Center and found great joy in her role as a homemaker, where she dedicated herself to cooking and caring for her family.

Her memory is cherished by her son, Leonard Powell McElhannon, Jr. and his wife Shuchen of Union Point, GA; her daughter, Stephanie Ward and her husband Gregg of Athens, GA; and her six grandchildren: Suzanne, Alexander, Mia, Charles, Leia, and Sophia. She is also survived by her great-grandchild, Chase Sands; her brother, Jimmy Sellers of Union Point, GA; and many other relatives and friends. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Annie Sellers; her husband, Leonard McElhannon, her son, Stephen Michael McElhannon; and her brother, Herman Sellers.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Union Point Worship Center, located at 4971 Lamb Avenue, Union Point, GA 30669, with Rev. Candy Arwood officiating. Following the service, interment will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery on Rhodes Street in Union Point. Pallbearers include Alex McElhannon, Charles McElhannon, Gregg Ward, Phillip Hubbard, and Pete Lankford.
