Ruth Brooks Obituary

Georgia Ruth Wilson Brooks, age 83, of Union Point, GA, died Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Athens Regional Medical Center. She was born on October 17, 1928 in Monticello, GA. She was the widow of Alvin Thomas Brooks and the daughter of the late George Rufus Wilson and Berta Goodman Wilson. She graduated from Union Point High School. Mrs. Brooks was retired from Union Manufacturing Company in Union Point and was a member of First Baptist Church of Union Point, the Happy Hearts Club and Union Point Garden Club. She also enjoyed reading.

Her husband Alvin Thomas Brooks preceded her in death in 2005 at which time they had been married fifty-eight years. A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gail B. and George L. Spearing, III of Lexington, GA; two grandsons and their wives, George L. Spearing, IV and Paige of Arnoldsville, GA and Paul K. Spearing and Julie of Creedmoor, NC; seven great granddaughters, Meggan, Morgan, Savannah, Ashley, Kate, Lily and Laura. Also surviving are two sisters, Grace W. Holcomb of White Plains, GA and Annie W. Evans of Sparta, GA; two sisters-in-law, Nettie McKinley of Union Point, GA and Ruby Dent of Macon, GA; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 206 Thornton Street, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Harry Michael officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669. Serving as pallbearers are George Spearing IV, Paul Spearing, William Maxwell, Don Schmidt, Phil Eley and Allen Askew. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday night at Callaway Funeral Home in Union Point. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 206 Thornton Street, Union Point, GA 30669. Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
