Roscoe Thurmond Jarrard

Roscoe Thurmond Jarrard, age 87, of Siloam, Georgia, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Northside Forsyth Hospital in Cumming, GA. Born in Lumpkin County on January 16, 1922, he was the son of the late James Benjamin Jarrard and Ethel Woods Jarrard. He lived in Gainesville as a kid and attended Lumpkin County School. After moving to Siloam, he was foreman of C. L. Rhodes Planing Mill. Then he served his country in the United States Navy from 1943 until his discharge in 1946. During his service in the Navy he was aboard the USS Ticonderoga Air Craft Carrier. His unit was attached to the 1st Marine Division that invaded Okinawa during World War II. In 1948 he married the former Dottie Louise Copelan. Roscoe ran a service station in Siloam and in 1963 moved it to Greensboro. He was a member of Siloam Methodist Church and later Fork Chapel United Methodist Church in Greshamville.

In addition to his wife, Dottie Louise Copelan Jarrard, he is survived by three sons, James Reginald "Reggie" Jarrard and wife Debbie of Greensboro, GA, Gary Michael "Mike" Jarrard and wife Vonn of Greensboro, GA and Rodney Thurmond Jarrard and wife Wendy of Cumming, GA; a brother, Steve Jarrard of Siloam, GA; grandchildren, Jenny Jarrard, Colby Jarrard Sims and husband B. J., Jack Jarrard, Austin Jarrard, Michelle Jarrard, Shannon Jarrard McGaughey and husband Sam, Starr Jarrard, John Jarrard and Sam Jarrard; two great grandchildren, McKenzie Sims and Alli McGaughey; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Willis Jarrard who was killed in Germany during World War II.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fork Chapel United Methodist Church in Greshamville with Rev. Wayne Usry and Rev. Bob Murphy officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Greensboro City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Thurmond Jarrard, Billy Jarrard, Johnny Lewis, Allen Bryan, Jimmy Walker, Bobby Dolvin, Lynn Dolvin and Jimmy Finch. Honorary pallbearers are George Copelan, Wynn Copelan, Jackie Copelan, Danny Duvall, Tim Duvall, Smitty Phelps, Robby Thomas, Jamie Jarrard, Matthew Jarrard and Zack Jarrard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night at the McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
