Roger Allan Erickson passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the age of 79, at his home with his wife and daughter at his side. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 3, 1944, one of seven children, to the late Carl William Erickson and Violet Mabel Pederson Erickson. He was raised in Anoka, Minnesota on his family’s farm. He graduated from Anoka High School and went on to the University of Minnesota and obtained a business degree.
He enlisted in the USMC in Kingsville, TX on January 30, 1965 and flew the F4 Phantom in photo reconnaissance during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a USMC Captain on December 28, 1969, in Cherry Point, NC. While in service he received multiple medals, including the Silver Star. This is a quote from a very dear friend and fellow USMC aviator “the best “stick” of our generation just pulled up to vertical one more time but kept on going. He is up solo with the stars” Such a great send off for him.
After serving in the military, Roger was hired to be a pilot for TWA. Once his pilot days were over, Roger went on to work for General Mills as Account Operations Development Manager. He retired in January of 2005 and shortly there after, he and Lola moved to Greensboro, GA where he loved playing golf with his buddies. His best golf day was when he defied the 67 million to 1 odds and got two holes in one in the same round!
He married the former Lola Mae Friedman on January 14, 1967. Together they raised a daughter, Bridget. One of his favorite things to do was watching anything his daughter was involved in, especially tennis and softball.
Roger is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Lola Mae Erickson of Greensboro, GA; a daughter, Bridget Linehan and husband Daniel of Atlanta, GA; brother, Richard Erickson and his wife Penny of Rosemount, MN; Sister, Janet Larsen of Milaca, MN; sister-in-law, Susie Erickson of Tucson, AZ; brother-in-law, Corky Rogers of Cody, WY, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Diane Rogers and three brothers, William Erickson, Larry Erickson and Robert Erickson; brother-in-law, Gary Larsen; and sister-in-law, Diane.
Roger was loved very much and will be missed!
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 17 at his family’s home.
