Roberta (Lindsey) Smith

Roberta Lindsey Smith, of Greensboro, GA, died Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at the age of 81 at her home with her loved ones. Bert as she was called by her friends and family was born in Penfield, GA on September 26, 1941, to the late Elisha Jonfair Lindsey and Emily Josephine Boswell Lindsey.  A lifelong resident of Greensboro, she graduated from Greensboro High School and on June 4, 1959 she married Reese Smith who was the former Sheriff of Greene County.  She not only helped her husband while he was in office but for a number of years after that she served as the receptionist for the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. She was a longtime member of Liberty United Methodist Church in White Plains, GA where she sang in the choir. She will be remembered best for her loyalty to family. Family was most important to her and she enjoyed participating in family activities and gatherings. She also enjoyed being with her friends.

In addition to her husband, Reese Smith she was preceded in death by her sister, Emily Smith.  She was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Richard Smith, Lynda Lindsey, Gail Lindsey and Robert Smith.  She is survived by her daughter, Robbie Smith Edmonds (Jim) of Crawfordville, GA; son, Martin Smith (Tracie) of Greensboro, GA; grandchildren, Mandy Churchwell (Dustin), Jake Edmonds (Megan), Bethany Harris (Taylor), Sumner Nuhfer Gaudry (Michah) and Hope Nuhfer Daniell (John Mark); great grandchildren, Kyle Churchwell, Kaylee Churchwell, Kinsley Barr, Jaxon Edmonds, Jenna Edmonds; siblings, Ann Smith of Greensboro, GA; Christine West (Roger) of Greensboro, GA, Richard Lindsey of Oconee, GA and Gene Lindsey of Union Point, GA.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2022, at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Pastor Chris Huskins officiating.  Interment will follow in the Penfield Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Smith, Chris West, Keith Lindsey, Lane Smith, Tom Williams, Steve Lanier and Adam McKinley. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Lanier, Morgan Lanier, Ken West, Campbell Brantley, Reid Brantley, Scott Williams, Dee Lindsey, Ronnie Brantley, Jake Edmonds, Kyle Churchwell and Dustin Churchwell.
