Robert "Bobby" Kimbrough

June 5, 1942 ~ April 21, 2022 (age 79)

Obituary

James Robert “Bobby” Kimbrough of Greensboro, GA, age 79, died Thursday, April 21, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA.  A native of Greensboro born June 5, 1942, he was one of five children of the late James Rosser Kimbrough and Golden Faye Patterson Kimbrough.  He graduated from Greensboro High School in 1960.  From 1962 until 1966, Bobby proudly served his country in the United States Navy, receiving an honorable discharge and making life-long friends, some of whom became the namesakes for two sons.  For many years he was the owner and operator of Kimbrough Logging.  He later worked for Georgia Kraft, the Greene County Landfill, Charles Chappell and Baynes Construction. He was a member of Walker Methodist Church.  He loved fishing, but traded in his rod and reel for a golf club later in life, spreading his new passion to many kids and grandkids. He always stopped to help people stranded on the side of the road if he could help, and never met a stranger for long because he had a way of prodding conversation out of everyone he met. He had an uncanny knack for knowing just where to find Native artifacts, and when to come home just in time for the food to be done.

Survivors include his two daughters, Paige Janes (Chris) and Joanna Kimbrough, three sons, Mike Black (Renee), Rob Kimbrough (Christy) and Mitchell Kimbrough (Karen Padgett); siblings, Larry Kimbrough (Nata), Linda Morgan and Henrietta Redd (Jimmy); grandchildren, Peyton “Petey” Goss, J. R. Kimbrough, Cory Kimbrough, Autumn Ralston, Nakia Black, Andrea Black, Tara Pineda, Christopher Bridges and Brandan Bridges; and a number of great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by both of his wives, Gert McIntosh and Barbara Jones Kimbrough and by his brother, Walter Mitchell “Buddy” Kimbrough.
