Robert Durwood (Bob) Atchley, 77, of the Del Webb Community in Greensboro, Georgia passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. Bob was born on September 23, 1947, in Gadsden Alabama to Easter Guthrie and Robert Atchley. He grew up in Alabama City, AL where he graduated from Emma Sansom High School in 1965. Bob graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Business Administration and received his Master of Business Administration from Jacksonville State University. He married his bride of 46 years, Lura Lewisson and her two daughters, Kristy and Kasey, on January 20, 1979. Bob and Lura spent 39 years in Tucker, GA and relocated to Greensboro, GA in April of 2019.
Bob earned his CPA certification with the state of Alabama and had a successful career in many Controller/Accounting positions with his last tenure being at Auto Doors, Inc of Georgia. Bob was also an Instructor of Accounting at Jacksonville State University. He was a Chartered Global Management Accountant as well as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Georgia Society of Public Accountants, and the Institute of Management Accountants.
Bob was the epitome of Southern grace with his quiet, kind, and gentle manner. He loved spending time with his family and was so proud of his two daughters and grandchildren. One of his favorite things to do was attending all his grandchildren’s various activities. Bob was an active member of Rehoboth Baptist Church in Tucker, GA where he served as usher and was on staff in the finance department. He was a member of Lakeside Church in Greensboro and was an active member of the Small Group Ministry. Bob was a devoted Alabama Football fan and he and Lura attended many of their games.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Lura; his daughters Kristy O’Connor (Sean) and Kasey Lumpp (Matt); grandsons Brendon, Blake and Bryant Lumpp and granddaughter Ryley O’Connor. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Kim Lewisson (Nancy) and Adrian Lewisson along with several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Easter and Robert Atchley and his brother David Atchley.
The family would like to thank Georgia Hospice Care and Shirley Dubose for their exceptional care of Bob during his final days.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeside Church located at 5800 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642. Reverend Kevin Magness, Reverend Ron Lambros and Terry Thomas are officiating the service. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to Cure PSP, 325 Hudson Street, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10013.
