Robert Stevens Obituary

Robert Arthur Stevens, Sr., age 86, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at his home in Greensboro, GA. He was born in Kingsville, TX in 1935 to the late Walter Arthur Stevens and Carey Wortham May Stevens. He graduated from The Dwight School in 1953 and continued his education at Bucknell University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1958.  In March 1959, he married Nancy Jane Brown in Coatesville, PA, and then proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, receiving an honorable discharge in 1965 at the rank of Captain.  They lived in Cincinnati, OH before moving to Greene County in 1999. Prior to retirement, Bob was a plant manager and consultant for R. A. Jones Company, where he worked for 30 years.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro.

Bob excelled in many areas, contributing to the betterment of all those fortunate enough to know him.  He was an avid volunteer and hobbyist – a woodworker, photographer, gunsmith, golfer, traveler and more.  He was known for his congeniality, chivalry, and quick wit. He spent his golden years in the company of his wife Nancy along with his loving dog, Phoenix, who was always by his side.  He applied his extensive interests, knowledge, and skills to create a rich legacy that will live on for generations into the future.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Nancy Jane Brown Stevens of Greensboro, GA; four children, Robert Arthur Stevens, Jr. and wife Lynn of Atlanta, GA, James Douglas Stevens and wife Susan of Franklin, MI, Carey Jane Stevens Broadwater and husband Keith of Phoenix, AZ and Michael Brown Stevens and wife Sandy of South Riding, VA; grandchildren, Joanna Lynn Stevens Spalding (Phinizy), Thomas James Stevens, James Douglas Stevens Jr. (Sydney), Elizabeth Jane Stevens, Amanda Gail Stevens, Rachel Jean Stevens, Leah May Stevens and Abigail Jane Broadwater; great grandchildren, Robert P. Spalding, Camille E. Spalding and Henrik I. Stevens; other relatives and many friends.

The family requests that any memorial gifts be made to the Oconee Regional Humane Society, where Phoenix was cared for after he was rescued. Memorial Services will be announced at a later date.
