Robert Anthony Simpson, of Greensboro, GA, died Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at his residence with his family at the age of 94. A lifelong resident of Greene County, Robert was born on March 27, 1926 to the late William Archibald Simpson and Mary Emaline Carter Simpson. In 1943 he graduated from Greensboro High School. Robert married Jonel Majeski Fleming Simpson in 1984 who passed away in 2012 after twenty-eight years of marriage. He was a well known building contractor running his own business for many years. Known as “The Tomato Man” by many he enjoyed gardening and from 1989 to 2017 he was the Local Weather Reporter. Robert was a devoted member of the San Marino Lodge #34 joining in 1974 and serving as Worshipful Master, Chaplain and the Director of Work. He was also a member of the Chappell Lodge #511 of Union Point, GA, Grand Chaplain for the Grand Lodge of Georgia and a Trustee for the Masonic Children’s Home in Macon, GA. In addition to his other service he was High Priest of the Greensboro Chapter #154 of Royal Arch Masons. Since 1938 he was a loyal member of Bethany Presbyterian Church where he was elected Sunday School Superintendent and song leader in 1946. In 1956 he became a Deacon and an Elder in 1967. Robert was a very kind and giving person who truly loved his family.
In addition to his wife, Jonel Simpson, parents, William and Mary Simpson and his step-mother, Annabell P. Simpson, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Finch and Mary Corry; two brothers, James Simpson and Archie Simpson; and a granddaughter, Alicia Simpson. He is survived by his daughters, Sandy Jackson (Stan) of Murfreesboro, TN, Dixie Webb (Mike) of Greensboro, GA and Penny Davenport (Gary) of Union Point, GA; a son, David Simpson (Sandy) of Greensboro, GA; step-son, Joey Fleming (Marcelle) of Greensboro, GA; step-daughter, Jana Fleming Roper (David) of Aiken, SC; two sisters, Inez Hunt (John) of Covington, GA and Louise Berrong of Danielsville, GA; brother, Alex Simpson of Greensboro, GA; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and very good friends.
A Graveside Service will be held Sunday, November 15, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 3051 Bethany Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Reggie Haslett officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church. The family requests that any memorials be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church, c/o of Dixie Webb, 3061 Siloam Veazey Road, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Jackson, Russell Jackson, Nicholas Allen, Keith Stone, Mike Simpson, Joe Simpson, Ricky Simpson and Marty Haslett. Members of the San Marino Lodge #34 of Greensboro, GA and the Chappell Lodge #511 of Union Point, GA will serve as honorary pallbearers. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
