Robert Edward Foster

Robert Edward Foster, age 89, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Saturday, May 18, 2013 at his residence in Greensboro. Mr. Foster was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 10, 1924 to the late John Clay Foster, Sr. and Julia York Foster. He graduated from Commercial High School in Atlanta, Georgia and received a Bachelor''s Degree from Atlanta Law School. He proudly served his country from November of 1942 until February of 1946 in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a Tail Gunner in the Naval Air Corp guarding the Atlantic. On September 20, 1946 he married the former Charlotte Ann Brown in Atlanta, Georgia. All of his working career was spent with Southern Pacific Railroad from 1948 until 1985 as District Sales Manager. After growing up in Atlanta, he lived in Rockdale County for thirty-two years and moved to their home in Greene County seventeen years ago. He had many hobbies including playing golf, fishing and doing carpentry work. Robert was an active and faithful member of Fork Chapel United Methodist Church of Greshamville.

In addition to his wife Charlotte of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by two sons, Steve Foster and wife Jackie of Social Circle, Georgia and Ray Foster and wife Deborah of Conyers, Georgia; four grandchildren, Scott and Lance Foster, Angela Whitmire and Lisa White; twelve great grandchildren; a number of other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Clay Foster, Jr.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Fork Chapel United Methodist Church, 1401 Farmington Road, Madison, GA 30650 with Rev. Guy Roberts officiating. Interment services with military honors will be held, Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Fairview Memorial Gardens, 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, GA 30281. Serving as pallbearers are Michael Brown, Scott Foster, Lance Foster, Jeff Whitmire, Steve White and Butch Helton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday night at McCommons Funeral Home.
