On August 12, 2023, loving husband, father, grandfather and local tennis champion, Robert Bourdage passed away in Athens, Georgia.
Robert Bourdage was born in Flint, Michigan on July 21, 1941 to Albert A. Bourdage and Mildred M Heddy. Robert married Sandra K. Johnson, his high school sweetheart, and had 3 children, Barry (Christine), Sherri, and Todd (Karen) and 3 grandchildren Brittany and Abigail (Todd) and Blake (Sherri). Bob was adored by his grandchildren and fondly referred to as “Grandpa Tennis”, always bringing levity and his unique sense of humor to family gatherings.
Robert was proud of starting his career in the trucking industry and even remembered meeting Jimmy Hoffa. He was also a consummate entrepreneur and moved his family to St. Charles, IL to open a family fabric business, later opening Prime Time Beef Market and Rug Doctor.
He was one of the founding fathers of Tri City Soccer in 1977 where he coached both boys and girls until 1983. He also operated his Rug Doctor franchise for over 20 years in Illinois, South Carolina and Georgia with his late wife, Brenda R. Bourdage. Robert was a huge lover of tennis and sports. He organized and promoted the tennis program at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Georgia and was one of their top players, winning many championships in the Lake Oconee Tennis Association.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Kirk Bourdage from Clarksville, Georgia where she lovingly nurtured him in his last few years due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.
A celebration of Life for Robert will be held at a later date.
