Dick was born on March 16th, 1930. He grew up in Great Neck, New York and graduated from Great Neck High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Naval Reserves and served for a year. He was called back to active duty and was deployed to Korea and served an additional 3 years. Dick attended Hofstra University where he majored in accounting, “The best decision I ever made.” Always athletic, he had played 3 sports in high school, he continued and played baseball for the university. He went on to coach little league and senior league for 17 years.
Upon graduation he went to work for Allstate Insurance and spent 18 years with the company. Dick moved to California in 1975 to work for Marsh McClennon and then started his own investment company and grew it into one of the largest financial planning practices in the country, Assetmark Investment Services.
In 1988 he and Wendy married and they blended their families. In 1992 they moved to Georgia. Upon discovering Reynolds Plantation in 2001, Dick decided to retire to play golf and enjoy life. He became an active member of the community and was instrumental in raising funds for the hospital which is now St. Mary’s Good Samaritan. Dick was a founding member of OPAS and was very much involved with the Reynolds Veterans organization. Along with his philanthropy, he was known for his love of the Irish and for having a big St. Patrick’s Day celebration every year!
He is survived by his wife Wendy, his four Sons Kevin, Brian (Linda), Dennis (Teri) and Daniel (Stephanie) and her children, Todd Farber (Erin) and Lori Taylor (Mike). He has eight grandchildren Lily, Connor, Maggie, and Jack O’Toole, and Ryan and Samantha Farber and Travis and Brooke Taylor.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Our King & Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA, 30642 with Father Adam Blatt officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA.
