Richard Alden Tally

Richard Alden Tally, age 80, of Greensboro, GA, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Watkinsville, GA.  Richard was born June 19, 1940 in Canandaigua, NY and was raised by the late Gordon Lee Tally and Evelyn Edith Fairbrother Tally.  Richard graduated from Keene High School in Keene, NH.  After graduation he entered into the United States Navy where he proudly served his country receiving an honorable discharge in 1965.  He enjoyed a long and successful career with Portsmouth Police Department for twenty-five years retiring in 1989 as Lieutenant.  In May of 2019 he moved to Greensboro after living in Fairhope, AL and Apollo Beach, FL.  Richard had many hobbies and passions and was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, golfing, boating and most of all he loved woodworking.  Over the years he was a partner with Greenbrier Custom Cabinets, Ironwood Cabinets, Coastal Wood Design and most recently Lake Oconee Art.  He was a member of Gosport Lodge # 20 while living in Portsmouth and a member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church since moving to Greensboro.

In addition to his loving companion, Joyce Suthard of Greensboro, GA; Richard is survived by his children, Richard Gordon Tally (Kim), Sherrie Pilkington, Melissa Thompson (Gene) and Matthew Alden Tally; sister, Patricia Ann Tally Solomon; grandchildren, Drew Tally, Danielle, Michael and Lindsey Reifer, Devon (Taylor) and Jamie (Mary) Pilkington and Lindsey and Katlyn Thompson; great grandchildren, Penelope, Merrick, Woods, Beckett and Storm Pilkington; and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Larry Pilkington; brother, Roger Lee Tally; and sisters, Debbie Lee Tally and Barbara Jean Tally.

A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, November 13, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642. Inurnment will be at Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach, VA.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Richard’s name to the charity of ones choice.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
