Richard Lewis Stewart, age 67, of White Plains, GA, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro after an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born on July 12, 1952, in Greensboro, GA. Richard was the son of Dorothy McKinley Stewart of Greensboro, GA and the late Milton Lewis Stewart. He graduated from the first graduating class at Nathanael Greene Academy in 1970 and attended Middle Georgia College in Cochran, GA. All of his life Richard was a self-employed dairyman first working with his father, Milton and then his brother, Charles. Richard was a member of White Plains Baptist Church, past member of the Morgan County Dairy Association and a board member of the Greene County Farm Bureau. He was an avid baseball player, enjoyed his family, friends and talking with everyone.
Richard is survived by his mother, Dorothy M. Stewart, of Greensboro, GA; sister, Brenda S. Stone and husband Charles of Milledgeville, GA; brother, Charles Stewart of White Plains, GA; nephew and nieces, Chuck Stone, Elizabeth Stone, Paige Deaver and Kim Daniel; great nephews and nieces, Abigail Daniel, Reid Daniel, Wyatt Daniel and Evans Deaver; his good friend and caregiver, Jean Dolvin; and a host of other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Milton L. Stewart.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at White Plains Baptist Church, 1020 Main Street East, White Plains, GA 30678 with Rev. Curtiss Moore and Rev. Lee Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Cecil Powell, Jeffrey Smith, Robbie Chapman, Dave Steed, Mike Smith and Zippy Duvall.
