Phyllis Barnes Ramsey, age 86, of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Union Point, GA, died on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Arbor Terrace of East Cobb in Marietta, GA. Born on September 22, 1935 in Covington, GA, she was the daughter of the late Francis Lloyd Barnes, Sr. and Marguret Malcolm Barnes. She graduated from Union Point High School and attended Flora MacDonald College in Red Springs, NC and the University of Georgia. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Union Point, GA. Phyllis had a beautiful singing voice and was also a talented painter.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth Bruce Portwood and wife Stacy Miles-Portwood of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Taylor Portwood and Trevor Young; great grandchild, Shayla Young; sister, Lucy Barnes McDowell; brother, Joe Barnes; sister-in-law, Jane Barnes; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Marguret Barnes; brothers, Henry Malcolm Barnes and Francis Lloyd “Frank” Barnes, Jr. daughter, Sharon Portwood Young; nephew, Henry Jefferson Barnes; other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 Veazey Street, Union Point, GA 30669 with the Rev. Dr. Ford G’Segner officiating. Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Wisteria Cemetery in Union Point. Serving as pallbearers are Ronnie Goodwyne, Francis Lloyd (Bud) Barnes III, Tom Bavis, Taylor Portwood, James Sewell, and Mary Katherine Barnes.
