Peggy Lanier Obituary

Peggy Ann Elder Lanier of Buckhead, GA passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home, Thursday, March 3, 2022. She was 86. Born in Clarksville, GA on September 21, 1935, she was the ninth of ten children of the late Ellen Allen Elder and Frank Wilmont Elder. Her family moved to Clarkston, GA when she was a baby and that is where she grew up. She attended Clarkston High School where she played basketball. On May 15, 1959, she married William D. Lanier. Peggy loved children and she ran a daycare in her home for many years and families all over Morgan County knew and loved her for how she prepared their children for school. Peggy was one of the most loving, caring, and giving women you could meet. Her faith was very important to her and even when Alzheimers was stealing so many memories, she never doubted God’s love for her and loved listening to old hymns. She was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church as long as she was able. She served in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and AWANA as a teacher, Women’s Bible Study Leader, Prayer Coordinator, Disaster Relief Worker, Church Camp, and Mission Trips. She enjoyed sewing, music, video games, gardening, camping, and crocheting. She had the gift of hospitality and loved cooking for everyone- and Wow! She was an amazing cook! She was also a sports enthusiast and faithful fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs!

Survivors include her children, Ron Lanier, Rick Lanier (Stacy), Rhonda Lanier Pepper (Robert), and Ralph Lanier (Cathy); nine grandchildren: Chase Lanier (Robin), Amber Vanderheyden (Rich), Nicholas Lanier (Ramsey), Elizabeth Lanier, Rebekah Harris (Aaron), Sarah Catherine Pepper, Paul Pepper, Andrew Pepper and Blake Lanier; and three great grandchildren: Amelia Lanier, William Lanier and Annabeth Harris. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William David Lanier; and all of her siblings: Hoke Elder, Hoyt Elder, Hugh Elder, Ruth Crane, Louise Talton, Mary Brand, Martha Brand, Kenneth Elder and Katherine Garner.
