Mrs. Pauline Stewart "Polly" Cooper, 90, of Seaford, Virginia died in Greensboro, Georgia on December 30, 2008. Mrs. Cooper was born in Dunn, North Carolina on October 5, 1918 to the late Willie Stewart and Minnie Norris Stewart. She graduated from Dunn North Carolina High School. She retired from the Newport News Shipyard with 38 years of service. After retirement she volunteered for a variety of community organizations including the Bargin Box, the Community Food Closet and the Yorktown Museum. As a young single mother of 3 she finished her education at the Hampton Roads Business College and later worked her way from an entry level position to executive secretary of the Piping Design Department. In 1974 she married the late Walter Ivan Cooper of Seaford, Virginia. Mrs. Cooper moved to Georgia with her daughter Edna in 2000 where she lived until her death.
She is survived by her 3 children, Mrs. Lillian Drenz of Springfield, VA; Mrs. Edna Clemence of Greensboro, GA and Mr. Jay Martin of Spokane, WA, 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. at Amory Funeral Home Chapel in Grafton, Virginia. Interment services will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, Virginia. Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday Night at Amory Funeral Home.
