Paul Wagner Obituary

It is with great sorrow that the family of Paul John Wagner, age 78, of Greensboro, Georgia, announces his passing on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at The Glen at Lake Oconee Village.  He was born on November 5, 1944, in Watertown, Massachusetts to Paul John Wagner and Marjorie Chamberlain Wagner.  He was a graduate of Watertown High School in Massachusetts. In June of 1962, he joined the United States Airforce based in Plattsburgh, New York.  He achieved the rank of Airman and was Honorably Discharged in June of 1968. Pursuing an education, he attended the University of Maryland and graduated with a Bachelor of Science.  Post graduation, he received his license as a Certified Public Accountant.

On September 2, 1967, in Yorktown Heights, New York he married the love of his life, Cheryl “Sherry” Marie Ahneman.  They were married for 45 years and moved around the Eastern seaboard from Maryland to Virginia to Massachusetts.  They also loved to travel and traveled the world together. As a CPA, his first job was at the Department of Labor as an auditor, kickstarting a 30-year career in accounting. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in VA, the Lion’s Club in MA, and could be found at The Elks Club in his later years.  As a Lion, he served as a Governor for the Massachusetts club for multiple terms, with Sherry by his side. They never shied away from the opportunity to help their community.

Paul leaves behind his children Tracey (Wagner) Atwood of Maine and Brian Wagner, wife Laura of Boston, MA; sister-in-law Sharon Wagner; grandchildren James Paul Wagner, wife Danielle, Tyler Charles Jones, Brian Charles Jones, Melanie Elizabeth Jones, Hunter Lyndon Atwood; great grandchildren George Patrick Wagner and Abigail Jane Wagner; as well as several other friends and relatives.  He was preceded in death by his mother Marjorie Chamberlain Wagner, his father Paul John Wagner, his wife Cheryl “Sherry” Marie Ahneman Wagner, his brother Robert “Bob” Wagner, his sister-in-law Teresa Ahneman Henderson and his brother-in-law Gregory Ahneman.

The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
