Patricia Smith Obituary

Patricia Moorhead “Pat” Smith, age 85, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Greensboro, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Northeast Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Born in Buckhead, GA on October 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Orian Alexander Moorhead and Lillian Lunsford Moorhead. Pat came to Greensboro from Buckhead in the second grade and later graduated from Greensboro High School. After graduating from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, she taught in the public school system in South Carolina and Georgia. When her husband, James P. Smith, retired from the military in 1970 they moved back to Greensboro and then in December of 2004 moved to San Antonio to be close to their daughter and grandchildren. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro. Pat was very instrumental in raising the funds for the Greene County Library on south main street and served on the board for six years. She helped with Meals on Wheels for twenty-two years and was chairperson of the Senior Citizens Board for fifteen years. She kept the records for the Greensboro City Cemetery Association for thirty-three years. She loved Greene County history and was the Curator of the Historical Society Museum. She is survived by her husband, James Park Smith of San Antonio, Texas, a daughter, Anne Roadman and husband Charles H. “Chip” Roadman of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Nora Baker of Asheville, North Carolina; two grandsons, Charles Roadman III and wife Julia of Austin, Texas and James Roadman and wife Lexa of San Antonio, Texas; a great granddaughter, Anna Elizabeth Roadman; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Alex Moorhead. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro with Rev. Richard Chewning officiating. Interment will follow in the Greensboro City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Ken Cawthon, Pete Rice, Bob Francis, Bill Worley, Fred Hunter Jr. and Horace Harwell. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Greensboro City Cemetery Association, c/o Bob Francis, 502 N. East Street, Greensboro, GA 30642.
