Nancy Warren Obituary

Nancy Ruth Rivers Warren of Greensboro, GA, age 89, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital, surrounded by her children. Nancy was born on January 26, 1936, in Augusta, GA, to the late Theresa Adele Rivers and Heyward Rivers, Sr. She earned an Associate degree in Music Education from Truett McConnell College. Nancy met her husband, Jack, at the First Baptist Church while they attended the University of Georgia. After a brief courtship of just two months, they were married on November 25, 1956.

She dedicated herself to raising her three children, as well as, working for various organizations and associations. While living in Athens, GA, Nancy was the Director of the Parkview Preschool helping low-income families with their child-care needs. When the family moved to Long Beach, MS, she worked for Jack at Forestry Update Inc. as his administrative assistant, which began her passion for meeting and event planning. She and Jack started their own company, Warren & Associates, where Nancy planned and ran tours of the MS Gulf Coast and surrounding areas for people attending meetings and conventions at the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park Campus. In 1982, the family moved to Atlanta, GA and she further advanced her career as an Executive Meeting Planner by taking courses to become a Certified Meeting Planner. She worked for different associations as their CMP, planning their national conventions in locations around the globe, executive board meetings, and their expos featuring the association’s products and services. She was also involved with the American Society of Association Executives organization by attending their annual meetings and participating on their committees. Nancy won several nationally recognized awards for her excellence in her field and was admired by her colleagues across the country. After she and Jack retired to Lake Oconee, she became a rules official for the United States Golf Association and the Georgia State Golf Association traveling around the Southeast working various golf tournaments. She also worked part time at the Reynolds Golf Courses in Greensboro, GA as a course starter and rules official. Nancy volunteered for 14 years as an American Red Cross First Aid worker at the University of Georgia for all their football games at home. She and Jack served on the Greene County Advocacy Panel as a liaison between families, CPS, and the judicial system, as well as, serving on the board and volunteering for the Greene County Senior Center. She was also the book tour manager for author Chris Sizemore who wrote her real-life biography “I’m Eve” based on her multiple personality disorder and subject of the movie “Three Faces of Eve.”

Nancy was a devoted Christian and member of the Walker United Methodist Church. She actively participated in numerous ministries in every church she and Jack attended throughout the years, including Choir Director, sang in the choir, Youth Director, Sunday School teacher, and served on multiple committees and led projects to help improve the programs offered to the church members. But her greatest joy was loving, caring for, and being with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family, whether it was to attend their sporting events, school events, church functions, musical performances, birthday parties, or just hanging out with them at her favorite place on earth ….. her house at the lake. She also enjoyed playing golf, fishing with her son locally and internationally, traveling to many countries around the world, cooking for family and friends, growing and nurturing her beautiful flowers, bird watching from her back porch, and attending the Masters Golf Tournament with Jack for nearly 65 years. She was also a passionate fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Jack Warren, Sr., in March 2023, after 66 years of marriage, and her sisters, Martha Louise Jarrell of Charleston, SC, and Nell Rivers Gannaway of Conyers, GA, as well as her brother, Harold Rivers of Greensboro, GA. She is survived by her sons, Bennie Jack "Skeet" Warren, Jr., of Greensboro, GA and Russell "Rusty" Rivers Warren, of Hartwell, GA; her daughter, Wendy Lee Warren, of Greensboro, GA; grandchildren, Daniel Joseph Warren (Amanda) of Hartwell, GA; Krista Warren Washburne (Dan), Scott Andrew Warren, and Annabelle Rivers Warren, all of Athens, GA; great-grandchildren, Elijauh Warren of Athens, GA; Brooklyn, Lizzie, Scarlett, Paisley, Sawyer, and Jack Warren of Hartwell, GA; Laila Washburne of Athens, GA; Nala and Colton Warren of Athens, GA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
