Nancy Eley Obituary

Nancy Lee Rowe Eley, a resident of White Plains, Georgia, for the past fifty-six years, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Eatonton Health and Rehabilitation.  Born on May 4, 1946, in Newton County Georgia, Nancy was the daughter of the late James Edward Rowe, Sr. and Sarah Stringfellow Rowe.  She grew up in Covington, Georgia, and was a graduate of Newton County High School and St. Mary's Nursing School.

Nancy married Larry Eley on August 23, 1968 and cherished raising their children on the family farm.  She was very outgoing and came to know numerous residents throughout the local communities through her work and civic organizations.  She spent her early years serving and caring for others as a LPN at Minnie G. Boswell Hospital and Greene Point Nursing Home, but found her ultimate calling in the United States Postal Service where she served for 25 years as a rural route carrier and postal clerk in Crawfordville and Union Point until her retirement.

A devout Christian, she was an active member of White Plains Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of several civic organizations, including Greene County Farm Bureau, Pilot Club of Greene County, Greene County and Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Eley; her daughter, April Amanda Eley; and her sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Donald Dennis. She is survived by her loving family: daughters, Amy Simpson (Charles) and Beth Clifton (Chad), both of White Plains, GA; sons, Jeff Eley (Jenny) of White Plains, and Mark Eley (Tawny) of Bettendorf, IA; her brother, Eddie Rowe (Peggy) of Titusville, FL; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Her grandchildren include Lauren Eley of Phenix City, AL; Lea Eley of Milledgeville, GA; Kaeley Clifton and Lindsey Eley, both of White Plains; and Henry, Will, and Ella Eley, all of Bettendorf, IA.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at White Plains Baptist Church, 1020 Main Street East, White Plains, GA 30678. Reverend Curtiss Moore will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for an hour before the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Serving as pallbearers will be James Coleman, Grant Coleman, Allen Coleman, Adam Taylor, Luke Askew, and Matt Eley.
