Myrna Long Obituary

Myrna Joyce Long, age 82, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Thursday, August 7, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia. She was surrounded by family as she peacefully passed away.

Born on January 10, 1943, in Commerce, Georgia, she spent most of her life in Greene County. She was the daughter of the late Reedy L. Walker and Emma Lou Myers Walker. She attended school in Jackson County before spending 40 years in the textile industry and operating her own daycare for more than 20 years. She was passionate about providing high-quality care for the numerous children she babysat, and it thrilled her watching them grow up to graduate high school and college and start families of their own. She was a member of Union Point Worship Center for nearly 30 years, during which she served as a Sunday School Superintendent and delighted members with several signature dishes, including deviled eggs and banana pudding.

Her favorite time of the year was the Christmas season. Her home was always decorated with several Christmas-themed decorations year-round. She was an avid fan of Jimmy Swaggart ministries, Hollywood westerns and cute baby videos on social media. She deeply loved her family and fellow church members, always willing to lend a hand and serve as a prayer warrior to others in need. And at any given time, she was prone to remind everyone of Matthew 18:19.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Ralph Wayne Long of Greensboro, GA; three daughters, Paige Hubbard (Brian) of Union Point, GA, Teresa Arwood of Greensboro, GA, and Candy Arwood of Greensboro, GA; grandchildren Justin Hubbard of Union Point, GA, Phillip Hubbard of Union Point, GA, and Destiny Arwood of Greensboro, GA. She is also survived by one sister, Linda Thurmond of Crawford, Georgia. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Grizzly.

She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, Stevie Phillips and wife Wendy of Winder, GA, Terry Phillips and wife Susan of Commerce, GA, Jeff Moody and wife Terri of Jefferson, GA, Connie Phillips of Cleveland, GA, Mike Moody and wife Patti of Watkinsville, GA, Cindy Cueny and husband John of Cape Coral, FL; numerous other great nieces and great nephews; and several great, great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob Roberts; sisters Louise Walker, Annette Phillips and Dot Walker; brothers R. L. Walker and Jimmy Walker; and nephews Ed Moody and Randy Walker.

A funeral service will be held at Union Point Worship Center (4971 Lamb Avenue, Union Point, GA) on Sunday, August 10, beginning at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mickey Umbehant, Rev. Courtney Umbehant and Rev. Debra Gentry officiating. Interment services will follow in Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Jeff Moody, Mike Moody, Matt Moody, Ricky Duvall, Jeff Eley, Pete Lankford and Justin Epps.
