Michael Moore Obituary

Michael Henry Moore of Greensboro, GA, died in the peace of his home on Lake Oconee in Greensboro, GA on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the age of 69. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 13, 1943, he was the son of the late James Henry Moore and Ellen Barry Moore of South Africa. Michael graduated from Saint Aidan''s College in Grahamstown, South Africa in 1960. In 1964 he received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Natal and in 1967 he received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Cape Town. On October 14, 1967 Michael married the former Carol Jane Clark in Glasgow, Scotland. Michael''s 37-year career with the Boart Longyear Company began and ended in Johannesburg, retiring as Chairman on December 13, 2003. In 2004 they moved to Greensboro, GA where they have made their home for almost 10 years. His career took him from Johannesburg to Melbourne, Australia and then Minneapolis, Atlanta and Salt Lake City in the United States. Michael was an active member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church where he volunteered to teach ESL and also served as reserve pianist He was a superb musician, playing principally piano but also organ and accordion. Michael spoke Spanish, French, German, Afrikaans, Fanagalo and basic Zulu and read newspapers in four languages daily. After 53 years of playing golf, Michael got a hole in one on November 7, 2012 on the fifth hole at the Oconee course at the Ritz Carlton.

Michael is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Carol Jane Moore of Greensboro, GA; daughters, Catriona Moore (Kyle Lundby) of Durham, NC and Nicola Dixon (Christopher) of Minneapolis, MN; a son, Simon Moore (Vanessa) of Singapore; brothers, James Barry Moore (Jean) of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Anthony John Moore (Lesley) of St. Francis Bay, South Africa and Justin Vincent Moore (Caroline) of Cape Town, South Africa; seven grandchildren, Caroline, Benjamin, Victor, Allison, Sadie, Nathan, and Rose; and many other relatives and friends around the world.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 8, 2013, at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642, with a reception at the church following the service.
