Michael Peel Dunn 1938 – 2018
Michael Peel Dunn passed away in his home at the age of 79 in Eatonton, GA on February 9, 2018, after a suffering from a rare form of cancer. He was born on December 17, 1938, in Savannah, GA to the late Hyman and Sadie Peel Dunn. The family moved to Atlanta, GA when Michael was just 6 years of age. He studied business at both Mercer University and Georgia State University. Michael is survived by his loving wife Carol Schwalbe Dunn, of Eatonton, GA, formerly of Atlanta, GA and Savannah, GA. Mr. Dunn has one daughter, Laurie Dunn Attaway and one granddaughter Jennie E. Attaway.
Michael worked for Westinghouse Credit Corporation in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Dunn accepted a job in the Pacific Northwest working for Wells Fargo Leasing as a Vice President from 1993 to 2005. He received many awards and had great accomplishments in both companies. After retiring from Wells Fargo Leasing, he became a Private Banker with Wells Fargo Bank in Greensboro, GA. During his career he received many awards and accolades for his business successes.
“Marathon Mike” as he was known, illustrated his passion for running and fitness – he ran over 200 marathons and half-marathons in his lifetime. He has been a member of the Marathon Maniacs for over 20 years and spent many weekends literally “on the road”, running marathons in the lower 48 states excluding Alaska and Hawaii.
Michael also enjoyed being an extra in over 15 movies, most notably as a judge in each “Hunger Games” movie and a corpse in ”Last Vegas”. Michael and Carol retired to Reynolds Lake Oconee in 2005. Michael was a member of the Lake Oconee Lutheran Church and in lieu of flowers please make any donations to Lake Oconee Lutheran Church and mark them for the church’s general fund.
