Mary Elizabeth (Herring) Hicks

On the morning of April 3,2025, Mary Elizabeth Herring Hicks, passed away peacefully at her home in Greensboro, Georgia at the age of 85.

She was born on June 14, 1939 in Glisson Township, North Carolina. She married the love of her life, Charlie Maxwell Hicks, at the age of 18 and traveled with him world-wide as he pursued a 20- year career in the United States Air Force.

Throughout these military assignments, Mary became a self-taught accountant and worked for several companies. She last worked as a Student Administrator for the University of Alabama, and after retiring, she accompanied her husband as he completed 20 years of service with the Federal Aviation Administration. Mary was known among her family and friends for making delicious meals and great desserts.

She is survived by her sister, LouEllen Carrell, brother-in-law, Vincent Keith Hicks and sisters-in-law, Levon Johnson and Kaver Crouch. Burial will take place at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL on Tuesday April 8, 2025 at 10:15 AM. A visitation for friends and family will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home, 6100 Old Greensboro Road Tuscaloosa, AL. 35405.
