MARION CALVIN DURHAM (M.C.)(Called Cal at GM for 30 years). He was born June 23, 1922 in the Durhamtown Community of Union Point, Ga the youngest son of Samuel Vinson Durham, Greene County, Ga and Minnie Lee Durham. M. C's father died when he was six years old. His family moved to Union Point in 1929 and he enrolled in school in the 1st grade. M. C. was baptized into the Christian faith as a teenager at the First Baptist Church in Union Point, Ga.
Over the years he home delivered the Atlanta Journal for 8 years, worked for Union Manufacturing in the dye dept and later worked as a knitter and also in the dress dept. He graduated from Union Point High School in 1940 and served in the U. S. Navy as a Navy pilot. M. C. married Betty Ann Wray in 1945 and earned a Technical Engineering Degree from Georgia Tech in 1951. He had lifetime assignments at Lockheed and General Motors Corp.
He has been married to Betty Wray Durham for almost 75 years. He is also survived by three children: Brenda Lee Durham , Georgia Baptist, RN, Stone Mountain, Ga, Kerry Lynn Durham, Georgia State, Systems Analyst, Southern Company, Freeport, Fl (Gail-CPA) and Kay Durham Jernigan Mahne, Georgia State, Math Professor, Oxford, Ga, (Doug-LPTA); four grandchildren: Michelle Jernigan Lightcap, Georgia State, Corporate Controller, Canton, Ga., (Jim-Design Engineer), Samuel Calvin Durham, Georgia Tech, Penn State, UNC, Served in Navy EOD, Engineer, North Palm Beach, Fl., (Ashley-RN), Natalie Ann Mahne, Gwinnett Technical College, Registered Respiratory Therapist, Oxford, Ga, and Matthew Joseph Durham, Trevecca Nazarene University, Working on Masters of Divinity, Nashville, Tn; and one Great Grandchild: Jack Calvin Durham (son of Samuel Calvin Durham). He was preceded in death by all of his siblings Frank Durham, Sara Lee Wray, Winnie Nell Tuggle, Velma Durham, Berta Durham, Pope Durham and Bryant Durham.
Graveside Services will be held Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, Ga 30669 with Rev. Bruce Lovin officiating.
