Marion Cobb Obituary

Marion Peacock Cobb, age 95, of Greensboro, GA, formerly of Rome, GA, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at Willow Run Retirement Home. Born in Rome, GA on May 7, 1909, she was the third daughter of the late Albert Rogers Peacock and Madelyn Lewis Peacock. She attended grade school in East Rome and graduated from Rome High School in 1926. She was a Girl Scout and was active in church in Rome and Lindale where she shared her piano talents. She taught in a one room school for a year, then worked as a bookkeeper at National City Bank in Rome. On December 31, 1931 she Married Clark Howell "Hallie" Cobb, Sr. They became the proud parents of two fine sons, Clark Howell Cobb, Jr. and William Rogers Cobb who preceded her in death in 1992. During her husband''s career at Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company, they moved to several states. After his death in 1976, she often visited family and friends in the United States and became a world traveler to China, Russia, Africa and the Holy Land.

Six years ago she moved to Willow Run Retirement Home in Greensboro where she especially enjoyed outings with her friends to the mountains, on fishing trips and boat rides on Lake Oconee. Her family is so thankful for Judy Hodnett and her staff who lovingly cared for her and became her adopted family. She leaves many special friends there who helped celebrate her 95th birthday last May.

She was a godly woman of great faith. She served in the Methodist, Lutheran and Presbyterian churches and joined the Baptist Church when she moved to Greensboro in 1998. She was especially happy to be baptized when she was 91. She was a faithful member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church until declining health prevented her attendance. A  She is survived by a son, Howell Cobb, Jr. and wife Jane of Greensboro, GA; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Cobb of Columbia, SC; six grand children and eleven great grandchildren who brought her much joy, Clark Howell Cobb III and wife Pilar and children, Travis and Morgan of Columbus, GA, Joyce Anne Cobb Cowles and husband Jim and children, Britton and David of Plano TX, Henry Clay Cobb and wife, Alice and children Brandi, Traci, Matthew and Haley of Austin, TX, William Rogers "Roger" Cobb Jr. of Greenville, SC, Rachel Marie "Rami" Cobb McCutchen and husband Kevin and children, Knox, Alli and Rachel of Columbia, SC and Marion "Rion" Edward Cobb, a Lutheran intern in College Station, TX; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, husband and son, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Annaberta Markert and Madeline King. A  Graveside Services will be held on Friday, January 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the East View Cemetery in Rome, GA with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Long and Rion Cobb officiating and a memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Greensboro on Saturday, January 22, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Long and Rion Cobb officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Grace Fellowship Church, P.O.
