Margie is survived by son: Dane Smith (Tinamarie) Fountainville, PA; daughter: Denise Smith Dupuy Smyrna, GA; grandchildren: Brandi Smith Fox (Charlie) Salt Lake City, UT; Kaitlin Dupuy MacGillivray (Scott) Woodstock, GA; Branson Dupuy Fort Worth, TX; great grandchild: Joseph Branson MacGillivray; sister Reba Batson Conyers, GA.
Margie was preceded in joining the Lord by her parents: Walter Winslett (d1982) and Etta Mae (Webb) Winslett (d1992); her older brother Horace Thomas Winslett, US Army PFC (killed in action in Korea in 1952); her younger sister Mary Turner (d2018), and her younger brother Walter Randy Winslett (d2007).
Born in January 1934 in Greshamville, GA, Margie’s family moved to West End Atlanta (Adair Park) where she graduated from Brown High School in 1951. After graduating, she began her career as an Administrative Assistant working for the Georgia Heart Association. She loved her job and the relationships she formed there, always sharing fond memories over the years. In 1955, she married Keith, the love of her life, and they moved to Norfolk, VA while Keith was serving in the US Navy. In 1957, Margie moved back into her parents’ home in Atlanta to give birth to her son while Keith was on sea duty. They began their life and family together living in Brunswick, GA, then moving to Decatur, AL and eventually settling in Smyrna, GA where she later had her second child. Keith and Margie lived the rest of their lives in their first purchased home.
Margie dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband, her two children, three grandchildren and a great grandson. She had a strong and enduring Christian faith. She and Keith both had family in the Liberty Methodist Church community in Greene County and they maintained strong ties to that church throughout their lives. They became members of First United Methodist Church in Smyrna, where Margie met some of her closest lifelong friends. These women formed a group called the Friendship Club, where they devoted time to studying the Bible. Margie enjoyed reading novels, working puzzles, and gardening. She was a wonderful southern cook and made the best sweet tea and cornbread with collards that her family has ever had. Margie never missed an event for her grandchildren and would always pack snacks to keep everyone fed and happy. Cherished memories are held by her family of sitting around the dinner table together, sharing stories and spending time with one another. Her devotion to family was felt by all who knew her. Her kindness and compassion made an impact on many lives. She will be forever missed.
