Joan Lurlene Brinkley Shelton, age 65, of Greensboro, GA, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at St. Mary''s Good Samaritan Hospital. A lifelong Greene County resident, she was born on May 14, 1947 to the late Henry Ira Brinkley and Myra Stewart Brinkley. Lurlene graduated from Greensboro High School and worked as a seamstress for Lena Hy Garment Company. She also babysat at Rainwaters and at home. She married Jackie Shelton on May 10, 1964 and they recently celebrated their forty-eighth anniversary She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Union Point. Lurlene was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren, working the word find books and reading.

In addition to her husband, Jackie Shelton, of Greensboro, GA, Lurlene is survived by a daughter, Sheila Hurrell of Bishop, GA; a son Steve Shelton of Greensboro, GA; grandchildren, Samantha Nichole Hurrell of Bishop, GA, Joshua Shelton of Watkinsville, GA, Cameron Michael Hurrell of Bishop, GA and Ashley McGhee and husband Richard of Danielsville, GA; great grandchildren, Ruston McGhee and Jaxton McGhee; sisters, Sybil Brown, Jewel Gail Ellington, and Debbie Brantley; brothers, Melvin Brinkley, Jessie Brinkley, Cecil Brinkley, Jimmy Brinkley and Charlie Brinkley; plus a number of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Milligan and by two brothers, Huey Brinkley and Tracy Brinkley.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Dennis Garner officiating. Interment will follow in Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Joshua Shelton, Cameron Hurrell, Richard McGhee, Nick Hillsman, Matt Garland and Ben Garland. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m Friday night at the funeral home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements.
